About Pat

Pat is a former high school social studies teacher.  She served on the Somerville School Committee and as State Representative, and was elected to the State Senate in 2005.  She and her husband, Alain, have three children and two granddaughters, all educated in the Somerville Public Schools.

On August 1, 2016, the governor signed Sen. Jehlen's Equal Pay law

In 2016, the Senate has passed several of Sen. Jehlen’s other bills, including:

  • Community Corrections: providing drug treatment for people incarcerated while awaiting trial.
  • Drowsy Driving: making people aware of the danger.
  • Increasing eligibility for senior tax deferral

Other laws Senator Jehlen initiated:

  • Early breast cancer detection
  • Giving MassHealth patients access to hospice care
  • Expanding HIV screening
  • Silver Alert system to help find people with Alzheimer’s who are wandering
  • Increasing supportive housing for seniors and people with disabilities
  • Parental leave
  • Compensation for wrongfully convicted people who were incarcerated for crimes they didn't commit
  • Requiring Braille instruction for blind students
